Manheim Township Soccer Club Travel Soccer Tryout and Selection Policy 2013 - 2014 Season
MISSION
The mission of the Manheim Township Soccer Club travel elite tryout and selection process is to ensure that all players receive a fair opportunity to join a team of their peers possessing similar game skills.
Eligible Participants
U9 thru U12 teams play with 8 players on a reduced size field. These team rosters consist of a maximum of 14 players.
U13 and older play with 11 players on a full size field. These team rosters typically carry between 15 and 18 players.
Team Selection
The number of teams formed for each age group will be determined by the number of qualified participants which enable MTSC to enter the most competitive teams possible. Teams will be formed based on skill level and there is no guarantee that a second or third team will be selected.
If multiple teams are to be formed for an age category, the travel selection committee will determine the best team format, that is whether or not to build equal strength teams or graded teams.
MTSC offers competitive soccer for those who would like to work on their skills and try out again the following year, or for those who cannot or do not wish to commit to the year-round demands of Travel soccer. For more information, please visit www.mtsoccer.com
THE TRYOUT PROCESS
The tryout process is held once a year in the spring and consists of one or two individual tryout sessions. The results of these tryouts will determine the teams for the following fall and spring seasons.
Participants are required to make at least one of the tryout sessions and are strongly encouraged to make both.
Logistics
Tryout times and locations are posted here.
Players will be run through a series of drills, game situations, and small sided team play.
The evaluators consist of third party trainers, coaches, and club members. All results will be weighted and relative so that individual evaluator ratings will not affect the overall players score.
Tryout Day
Parents must fill out prior registration form and hand it in at the tryouts. See website for complete details. Participants will be issued a colored pinney with a number on it.
- Players must wear appropriate workout clothes including cleats and shin guards.
- Players must bring their own ball.
- There will be water breaks between drills. Players must bring their own water, etc.
What will the tryout evaluators be looking for?
- Ball control and dribbling skills
- Passing
- Tackling
- What you are doing when you do not have the ball
- Shooting
- Your overall impact on the game, no matter where you are playing on the field.
- Teamwork
- Coachability
Use your time playing at the tryouts to show off any or all of these skills. If you are interested in playing as goalkeeper, let the evaluators know.
TEAM SELECTION
Participant results will be tallied by the travel selection committee. Player selection will be determined through a combination of tryout results, trainer and coach recommendation. Having previously played for a team does not guarantee a spot for the next season.
The travel selection committee will meet with coaches to determine the roster for the upcoming seasons. Letters of acceptance will be sent out as soon as selection is made. This is typically within a few weeks of tryouts.
CONCLUSION
Thank you for your interest in participating in the Manheim Township Soccer Club’s Travel league. We are a volunteer organization and do our best to be fair, consistent, and balanced in this selection process.
GOOD LUCK!
